The 550 supercharged engine has two coolant reservoirs one for the engine and one for the intercooler. The intercooler coolant reservoir is not holding the coolant. We fill the reservoir up to the max line and then start the engine and it slowly disappears somewhere and after about two minutes the reservoir is bone dry. I have looked around in the engine bay and i seem to find no fluids. Is this a bad coolant pump

I would let the dealer figure out that issue, since it should be under warranty. Is this a '13 or '14? Your current boat is listed as a '14, but the thread title says '13.I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. We specializes in Nautiques and Correct Crafts, and also provide general service for Nautiques fifteen years old and older.

Could be dumping out in a heat exchanger. You would be leaking it out the exhaust if so. Jeffs right I'd take it in unless your pretty handy. If that's the case a radiator shop can test the exchanger.

The engine temp stays the same...we have been out surfing quite a bit. I talked to the dealer and they said it should be fine until we pull it out for winter. The engine temp sits around 173-176 so not much variation and isn't getting too hot. The boat comes out October 12th.

The engine temp is not the same as the intercooler temp. The reason the intercooler is there is to cool the intake charge to keep the engine from detonating (engine temp could stay the same combustion chamber could be sky high, detonation). Detonation will kill your engine! I'm not sure of the boost that the 550 puts out but I would not be running under heavy load (surfing) I might run it lightly (low to mid RPM) load to get to the trailer.
If the your dealer told you it was ok I would want that in writing as a CYA incase your have internal damage.Last edited by ddipert; 10-09-2015, 02:22 AM.

Thats kinda scary...so Nautique doesn't have engine code or auto shutoff if something gets too hot? I have a feeling my intercooler still is getting some coolant considering i have not had any issues. I won't be surfing anymore thats for sure. although under load the rpm sit at 2600

At this point the damage has most likely been done, i just don't get how someone is supposed to catch this fault. The only reason i opened up the engine compartment was to show my buddy the engine. When i was showing him the engine i noticed that the intercooler coolant reservoir was very low. I have no idea how long it has been very low but i received no warning on my LINC system about this. To this day if i wouldn't have opened up the engine compartment i would've never known my reservoir was almost dry. This issue has to be under warranty. if the coolant pump failing did indeed result in engine damage then my dealer is going to have a fun time rebuilding my engine this winter because they did not tell me squat when i mentioned this to them.

I really wouldn't be too worried about engine damage... The engine has 1-2 knock sensors that will retard the timing to keep pre-ignition/detonation to a minimum or from happening at all. You would se an engine trouble code if this happened too I'm pretty sure. I wouldn't worry about that as much as I would worry where this coolant is actually going. That heat exchanger is in the entering airstream of the engine. If the leak is external then no real worries other than a mess of coolant to clean up in the valley pan. If the leak is internal it could be sending this coolant into the engine, washing down the cylinders and causing wear to bearings, cylinder walls etc.
My recommendation is to first pull the dipstick and check the oil level to make sure no coolant has entered the engine block. If it has DISCONTINUE USE IMMEDIATELY!!! If the oil level/quality looks okay I wouldn't worry much and take it in at your earliest convince.Jason
