    temp Question

I have a 1982 sn 2001. This is my first boat and I was wondering what is normal temp range ? The boat runs great and I installed a new impeller , hoses , tested thermo, and new exhaust hoses. Boat stays around 160 if I'm going slow. If I go near 4000 rpms or punch it across the lake it shoots up to 190 - 200. Then it will go down after I slow down. My gauge doesn't say when it's hot or red , so I'm not sure. Thanks .

    RE: temp Question

You probably have a 160 degree thermostat which is why it stays at 160 at idle. Ideally it should stay at this same temperature regardless of what speed/load you are at. Your heat exchanger may not be as efficient as it once was due to corrosion. With that said, you can probably get away with temps at 190-200, but I wouldn't go aver 200, as your are running lake water(not coolant) through your engine and it will start to boil at 212.
