    New trailer bunk board ideas

bolts are starting to fall out of my trailers bunks and I had an idea I wonder if anyone has tried. What if I get two 1x6 boards and glue them together with stainless bolts sandwiched in the middle? That way I could set them on the trailer and put nuts on from the under side and hopefully have less problem with rot. Thoughts?

I never had a problem with a bunk I replaced with a pressure treated 2x6 and stainless carriage bolts/nuts and using monel staples for corrosion resistance. It should last you several years.

I would not do this. If the bolt heads spin either during installation, repair or removal you are going to have to cut them off. Countersinking is the best.

I thought of countersinking, but I worry that water would be trapped on that would rot it out. Do you do anything like put caulk on the bolt head after countersinking it? I know its going to last for at least few years, but would like to make it as permanent as possible. I use my boat often and keep it on the trailer, so I'm looking for something good. I'm also adding swivel brackets to the top of the current welded on bunk mounts so that the boards can turn to fit flat against the hull.
