I got the cable pulled through last night, I haven't connected the rudder yet or bolted the helm on. The question I have is do I put my steering wheel straight and then bolt on the helm to make sure the wheel is straight? I kept the rudder straight when I took the old one off and the steering wheel was off then.

Connect the rudder end first. Set the rudder in a straight position. Connect the helm with the wheel close to where you'd like it for straight driving. I've gotten lucky from time to time this way and others a few degrees off. I just take the steering wheel off at the lake using the large center bolt and then micro adjust it. You have much more adjustability by taking the large center bolt off instead of the Allen bolts.

jhersey nailed it. Always take of the large center nut, never the allens.

Jeff, great write up. That helps a lot. I did get the cable ran the other night (not to bad to do) so now this weekend I will connect the rudder and bolt on the helm. Thanks for the help everyone.1996 Nautique Super Sport

Were you able to pull the cable thru without pulling up the floor? When I did my '95,the captive nut on the cable that connects to the support tube would not pass between the gas tank and the stringer. I had to pull up the floor run the cable all the way thru then drop it down around the L brackets that hold the tank down and then along side the tank. Now that I've done it next time won't take as long

Sorry it took so long for me to respond back. I didn't have to much of a issue doing this myself. I forgot about the zip ties in the locker, so once I looked there and cut them it was a breeze. After all installed, it was night and day difference. Cant wait to get it out on the water this summer. Thanks for all the help
Yeah, I had to shift the gas tank to get it through, but once I did that, no problemsLast edited by J10; 02-01-2016, 10:26 AM.1996 Nautique Super Sport
