I had a 1 1/2" slash in my observer seat backrest, and had a pro vinyl guy come out and fix it. $40 and you'd never know it was there. For me, leaving a repair like this to the professionals was a better route. In short, maybe it's worth getting a quote before spending money attempting something you haven't done?
I agree with the above! I tried a DIY kit, mainly just because I like to DIY just about everything to gain the knowledge...but in all reality, you can probably get a professional to repair it for just as cheap as you can DIY, mainly because they already have all the materials and tools needed on hand (and their tools are also probably better than anything you would get to do the job). Plus they will simply do a better job. The down side, is some places will not just want to repair most cracks and tears (especially those in the corners and seams), but instead will try to push you to do a full replacement of the vinyl.
I agree with swc. I had a guy come out and repair every blemish I could find. Most you couldn't even tell he was there. A couple of the vertical seems of the bow cushions are noticeable to me, but unless you pull the cushion, no one even knows it is there. Cording is another area that is difficult to get perfect. The real benefit you get from a pro is the color match. A guy that is good can blend the color and you can't tell the difference. I didn't trust myself to get that right.
Good point Tjca77 on the color. The guy that fixed my tear had a slick little air brush set up, from which he was able to apply thin layers of color until it was the exact white of my seatback.
We have a couple very minor spots in our vinyl that are cracked. Any good recommendations on a good product to fix them so they don't get any worse?
Thanks
We use ColorGlo they have reps across the country if I am correct. We have two here, one is by far better than the other, so check reviews if you can. We recommend him to customers that the issues is not worth re upholstering.
