NEW floor and carpet, HELP..instruction, suggestions, photos

I need some suggestions and advice before tearing in to ths project.

My friend has an 84 SN2001, the floor has a few soft spots and diry carpet, we plan on replacing the whole floor. We need some advice and instuctions, where the floor attaches, materials, coating on materal and info on the problem that usually arise while taking on this project.

Any advice, suggestions, or photos of this project would be helpful.

    Thanks in advance.

RE: NEW floor and carpet, HELP..instruction, suggestions, ph

I installed new Aqua-Turf carpet in my 76 Nautique a couple years ago. I bought my carpet at http://store.yahoo.com/yourautotrim-store/index.html. They were about 50% cheaper than all of the upholstery shops I checked for the same carpet. In fact, I used one of the sample charts from a local shop to determine the exact Aqua-Turf carpet model number / color.

The small 32" x 32" plywood over the drive shaft was bad. I replaced it with marine grade plywood and reattached it with SS screws. I didn't do any fancy coating. The first piece lasted 26 years. Are the soft spots located in the rear of the boat over the drive shaft? I'd be concerned about the stringers, etc if I found soft spots beyond that small piece of plywood in the rear of the boat.

Just a couple tips (you probably know this stuff):
    - Use a grinder with wire wheel to remove all of the old glue
    - Install the carpet on the sides first.....then do the floor.
    - Don't install cheap carpet. It's too much work to cut corners on materials.
    - Use marine carpet glue

I replaced my rear center section w/ 3/4" Luan plywood & encased everything in West System epoxy.
When replacing carpet, use your old one as a template for cutting the new one.

It may be old & sit on the trailer too much, - But it\'s a Nautique - Wicked Pissa!!
