When changing oil make sure to remove old oil filter O ring

I had a Really rough day yesterday, could have been worse if not checking for water in the risers. The first time I thought the oil filter was loose, tightened , same thing. I guess this is a common mistake by dummies like me. Could have been very costly, Check your boats when first starting for the season. I always seem to have screwed up at least one thing per season.

    Hahahahaha.

Not laughing at you, laughing with you. Did the same thing last year. Pulled the old filter and left the o-ring on there. Put the new one on and fire it up, oil starts spitting, so I tightened again. Finally figured it out, got another filter just in case we tweaked the one we screwed on wrong.

Good luck. I just got the new impeller on and fired it up on the hose line. Oil pressure gauge not working. Great.

Oh my gosh! Same here last season, although my boat idled fine until first person in the water (me). First time the throttle was advanced to pull me up it immediately went into limp mode. Opening up engine hatch oil was everywhere. Took it home and it wasn't until I got the filter off I discovered my mistake.

Also same as flux, I changed filter again, replace oil (again) and everything seemed ok. SCARY! No one had ever warned me about the old rings sticking as it obviously hadn't happened before.

Always put a little oil around the ring before putting it on. It will help with this problem. Althought you should always check it. Cars too.

Yep put some oil on the new oring for a better seal and hopefully it will come off with the old filter next time you change it!!!

Got my pressure gauge working, loose connection on that wonderful 6 pin plug, basically just took the wire and tweaked it to one side and taped it around the plug. Something about seeing 0 pressure really bothered me even though I knew it was fine and the boat would have gone into limp mode.

I second the oil the seal first and it should come off.

I have always oiled my o-ring, and only had one stick. It was on my '94 F-150. I dropped about a quart of oil on the driveway, but it looked more like 4 quarts from how it spread out. I guess it happens to all of us.
