    Waxing

    Hi everybody,

i have a question for all of you:

    1. How often do you wax the underneath of your boat?
    2. How do you do it? on the trailer or without the trailer with the boat hanging by the hooks?

I am debating whether or not i should rig something in my garage to ba able to lift the boat off the trailer to ba able to do this easier without the trailer in the way.

I waxed underneath last year on the trailer. Not to terrible, I would suggest a towl as a head rest, especially if you use a RA polisher.

As far as the rigging goes no worries...that is not the point of this thread. .
I need to know if I can lift the boat by the 2 hooks on the front and back of the boat
And second how often do you guys wax the hull??
          Never?
          Once a season?
          Once a year?
          How often

You can definitely lift the boat by the lifting rings. That's Nautiques trademark they have kept.

As far as the hull waxing. My personal opinion is that it really does nothing for your hull. By hull I mean the main part that contacts the water. The friction from your bunks and from the water wil basically strip it's after 1 or two outings so I don't spend a lot of time on it. The only reason to cut and polish the hull is to remover scuffs , light scratches etc. Thats always been what I've been told and I have stayed with that with great success.

I did my 230 once per year but had the dealer do it. On the G, I do it once per year on the trailer and just get where I can reach, mainly just to keep it clean. The parts I can easily get to, I wax with the rest of the boat, every other month. When it needs buffed, I'll hire it done. I don't worked under a suspended load.

Waxing the bottom of the boat will actually increase friction between the hull and the water. If I remember correctly the hydrophobic action between the fiberglass and the water creates a "pad" for the boat to ride on, and the wax removes this interaction. Not a scientist, but a buddy had an Allison bass boat, and it was losing speed, couldn't get over 80mph. Took it to the plant, and the first thing they asked him was did he wax the hull, when yes was the answer, they immediately stripped the wax off and went for a speed test. Success! Since then, I have never bothered.

I do it once a year to keep things clean. Speed isn't a factor for me, although I can't imagine it would make any significant difference, especially on these boats. Said another way a polish and wax just helps things looking good.

I am with Swatguy and Ski4ever that waxing neither needed or beneficial. As stated, it actually is slightly detrimental.

I would rather the boat be clean and not worry about losing a little mph. I find dirt from the lake does not stick to a well waxed hull as well.

                        CHassmann,

i have to agree with you..my firts boati never waxed the hull and when i took it out at the end of the season i had a hard time cleaning it (the hull was white), last year before i put my SV211 in the water i did the entire hull (what i could get to with it on the trailer) and in september when i took it out...WOW!!! all i did was spray it with the water hose and that's it!!!! iused Marine 31 Gel Coat Carnauba Wax + Sealant...i'm sure it made a difference...don't know about the speed or care, but about the cleaness of it.

i usually clean - but not wax - the hull once a year. i wait until the lake is low and do it while in lift.
