    Ballast Conversion

Hi all....my 98 AN currently is only running the stock rear tank for ballast. It uses a gravity-feed system to fill the tank which I personally find quite annoying and not as reliable as I'd like it to be. Anyone know if converting this to an automated fill setup would be feasible? Basically just add a pump and be able to flip a switch to fill and/or drain it on demand instead of having to rely on the gravity feed. What level of difficulty would that involve? Any advice appreciated!

    RE: Ballast Conversion

I just re-worked the pumps and valves in my 2005 211, it's not that hard and it's not rocket science. If you remember that water flows downhill and add in reliefs it's pretty easy to come up with a good valveless system. I didn't want to re-do the through hulls in my boat so I had to keep the valves but they are not really necessary. For some reason CC has not figured out how to flood a pump and how to break a siphon. If you understand those two principles, you can design your own valveless system that uses cheap aerator pumps. The pumps have to sit below the waterline with the output above the intake. The fill lines need to have a loop that rises above the highest point of the tank/bag, a small vent needs to be installed at the highest point.
