Thanks for the additional info. That 2nd m10 on mine was very loose, in fact it had backed out at least 2-3 turns. I'll bet I was on my way to a disaster.

I'll have to take the alternator back off and find out the length of that additional bolt. Looks like this fix needs 3 bolts and some thread locker.

Just wanted to toss this out for anyone in a similar situation in the future.

*disclaimer* I am NOT a certified marine technician, nor am I affiliated with any dealers or boat repair shops. I am just a boat owner (2007 Chaparral 256ssx) and have been a mechanic/fabricator/fixer-of-all-things-broken since the age of 15. (I am now 55)

I had a friend of a friend come to me with a broken boat... only his situation was a little worse than just two broken bolts. The upper bolt hole was damaged and partially broken away... which reduced the surface contact area to less than half.

My solution is to make a 1/2" thick steel plate that bolts on the end of the cylinder head. There are two additional 10mmx1.5 over near the exhaust flange... so I intend to utilize those holes for additional mounting bolts and stability.
The upper bolt hole in the plate is threaded 10mmx1.5 and will accept the OEM upper bolt. The bolt will need to be shortened a bit because it wont likely screw into the head nicely anymore due to the damaged cylinder head.
The lower hole is just a pass-through and the OEM bolt will still fully thread into the cylinder head.

Due to the thickness of the steel plate (.500"), I milled-off .500" from the base of the alternator bracket stand-offs/pedestals. This should keep the serpentine belt in continued perfect alignment.

I just made this mounting plate this morning, but we are still waiting on mounting hardware to arrive.

I will update this thread once its all back together and running.
