    Strong Fuel Odor-99 Air

    Hi there,
    '99 Air, GT-40 EFI. Direct drive.450 hrs
Weird thing started happening last season. While the boat is running (idling or underway), there is a strong smell of fuel. When I pop the doghouse there is no smell. So it does not seem to be coming from the engine compartment. It seems to be coming from the back of the boat near the tank. Maybe a fill or vent line? It seems to do it more after filling up. I've checked the obvious- lines, fittings etc and can't find any evidence of a leak. The boat runs and performs just fine.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Mike

Ended up being the sending unit base and gasket was not tightened enough.

I have a similar issue. Noticed it last few times I have been out. Just a strong odor of fuel, but not visible leaks in any water in the bilge. Can you explain a little more detail what your issue was?

Mine did that once, if you get where you can see your gas tank gauge probe look and see if it's tight / is in good shape. Should be just a couple of screw to get it off.
