Whats that noise? Question from first time boat and Nautique owner.

Long time lurker first time poster...

I just recently purchased my first boat a 2005 Sport SV211. I am very happy with the boat so far no issues and it is in great condition. I have noticed a sound coming from the boat while it is parked in the garage with the power off but battery still connected. It sounds like a small pump or motor. It only lasts a few seconds. What is causing this? The sound reminds me of my old VW the fuel pump would turn on when I opened the door. Is this normal? Will this kill the battery over a long period of inactivity? Do i need to disconnect the battery from the boat when storing it?

    I appreciate the advice.

I would say it's your bilge pump cycling on to see if there is any water to pump out. There is no float on these pumps so they turn on and off on their own to see if there is water in your bilge area. If there is resistance on the pump from water it will stay on untill it feels no more resistance or water. It's normal and most likely what your hearing. Can you determine where the sound is coming from?

Sounds like your bilge pump. Check your switch under the helm. Is is set to bilge?

It's most likely your bilge pump cycling to see if there is any water in there. Are you sure your ignition is completely off? There should also be a toggle switch that controls the bilge seperated from the dash. Make sure that is off as well. My guess is you're not flipping that off

With the boat completely off it should not be cycling. If it is there is something wired incorrectly.

That's what I was thinking. I will have to look at the main switch under the dash. I know it has three positions Off / On / Something else, that middle setting may be bilge. I thought I had it all the way to the left (off) but you never know. Other than that I am not aware of where a dedicated bilge switch would be. It does sound like mid boat but it usually happens when I am walking out to my truck usually with a kid in my arms and shuts off before I can even reach the boat. the sound only come on for like 5 seconds at most. I appreciate the advice.
Assuming it is the bilge pump and I do find the switch... I should leave it off when storing the boat out of the water. If I leave the boat covered at a dock would this be something I should leave on?

I figured it out. The power switch which I have all the way to the left is in the "Bilge Pump On" mode. Guess I should climb under there an take a good look at it. I really appreciate the help guys.

So if you're dry storing it in your garage off is the correct position. If you leaving it moored in the water , bilge on is the correct position.

You also have a manual switch on your keypad to manually engage the pump on. It should have pic with a boat and an arrow pointing up and out the side in case you ever need to have it run constant. This way only works if the ignition is on. It's light up in the pic I attached.
