2001 ssn gt40 impeller .

I just got back home after my first boat ride of the season......
Over the winter the local shop replace my impeller along with full tuneup belts plugs cap rotor wires... and perfect pass.

Drove a short distance and saw the temp jump to 180... and then to 200... shut off motor.
When parked on trailer I started the boat looked for leakes. Check dipstick for water-y oil and all looked go. Pulled to dock parked pulled trailer out. Drive out away from dock and shorty got to 180 (odd when lake is so cold...) looked down again 200 hit stop... waited... for bother me and the boat to cool....

Pulled back to dock and waited. Called shop... no real help.

Let motor cool, pulled strailer. And checkit... not clear lake water... rusty color.
Dumped water started... no water in strainer...

So, my best guess is they did not check that the water was pumping correctly at the shop. Might have bad impeller or (after reading) could have put it back together wrong...

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

If they removed the water pump to replace the impeller, they may have installed it backwards.

That is what I am think, they flipped the back?.

After looking at pick and mine, it was installed backwards. Now, what.... possible damage. All the impeller parts should only be on the hose from strainer to pump housing... muffler damage?

The set screw was to the outside. .. cannot load pic too big

You need to check the condition of the impeller but if I was you I'd take it back to the local shop and tell them what happened. If they are half way decent they should at least give you a new impeller and inspect the engine. They are at fault here, thus was a very bad mistake on their part.

Does the 2001 SS have a shutoff valve for the fresh water intake? I make the mistake of leaving this shut on my dad's 02 210 once after de-winterizing and chewed up an impeller. Pretty stupid, but that would be the first thing I would check, then make sure the strainer has a good seal, and then check the raw water impeller. Ie. start from the source and work your way inward. 200 degrees probably wouldn't do any damage, but I would definitely take it back to the shop who did the work, have them look it over, and then check it again yourself.

thanks, but there is no Shut off... I know that is backwards.
Shop picked it up Monday night because they are 1.5h away so 3 hour round trip.
before the took it, I removed the cover from the rear and look in the motor bay. Looked backwards.
Then I removed the side and look closer and could see the screw facing OUT.
I closed it back up after taking a few pics.
I should hear back today.

I called Skidim.com and Nautique parts, and got recommendations on what should be looked at.

should look for impeller parts, pull thermoset housing for missing parts
Pull exhaust tubes looking for damage due to heat.
Look at flapper for damage due to heat.
look at and listen to muffler for damage to and blown out fiberglass.

Recommend to check compression,
change the oil to look for water, but check dipstick first.
Change trans and vdrive if older then "this season" or "changed at the end of last year"

Both places told me that "GT40... you should be good, but GM.... all beats would be off..."
