EMI thunder headers?

Now before everybody comes on telling me I am wasting my money let me explain my needs. My 211 with the Excalibur 330 will run 40 with a few people in the boat while I am barefooting. Since I broke my ankle a few years ago my one-foot technique is not that pure so I need a solid 42 to do them. I have tried 4 different props, none satisfy my desire for a reasonable holeshot and adequate top end.

I think the headers will allow the motor to make more power so I can run the 13.5x17.5 sport prop, not the 13.25x16 prop that I am running now. I found the sport prop inadequate out of the hole with a loaded boat. This prop will also get the 34mph rpm's back to a reasonable level. I just hate running around at 4,000 rpm's for so many hours. I think the sport prop was around 3,700rpms at 34mph. The other benefit of the aluminum headers is losing about 70lbs right off the back of the boat helping out the slalom wake a bit.

The headers will cost about $1100, they claim 10-15% increase in power (with a stock motor), and a lightening of 70+ pounds where it really counts. There is a good thread on wakeside rides about a guy that put them and other stuff on his Malibu, search Eagledriver or Callaway if you are curious.

I would like to hear some opinions.

I've read about eagledriver's boat before. With a few people in the backseat, he got a Malibu Sportster up to 68 MPH, verified by GPS. Granted that boat is light and gets a decent amound of hull out of the water, but 68 MPH is fast! I'd say that if the headers flow well enough to support the kind of horsepower he's putting out, theyd be a good upgrade for you as well. I would expect to see something in the range of 20-25 hp. Dont know if that will get you a full 2 MPH, but it will get you closer. $1100 seems like a reasonable price.

I think it might also be worth a call to PCM to ask about a performance chip. If rechipping a Honda Civic can add 10% to the horsepower what about a performance chip for the Excalibur?

You might go over the Themalibucrew.com and ask for Galaxy Toad. He used to be Eagle Driver. That dude knows a bunch about adding HP to a boat motor. He'll be able to tell you if you are wasting your time or money.

Rick, my requests to PCM have fallen on deaf ears. I have been unsuccessful getting anywhere with their distributor or dealer. I believe the corporate line is "PCM engines are already designed to maximize performance"

What about SKIDIM they may have some answers. I realize that we are running these engines "open Loop" because of the lack of an O2 sensor. Having said that I think I might go to www.superchips.com and see if they could help.
