I recently purchased a 2013 Super air 210 with 1200hrs. To make a long story short the boat was boat was basically a demo boat and all the mantince was done by a nautique mechanic until i purchased it. Ive had the boat out 3 times now and the first two trips went great. Today i went out for a for short trip to pick up some friends. When we went to leave the check engine light came on and I had no throttle response. The boat would only idle. I opened the engine hatch and there was a lot smoke coming off the right side behind the manifold. I thought the motor was over heating but my engine temp stayed at 160 degrees so we limped a short distance back to the dock. I then checked to see if the impeller was pumping water by removing the drain plug on bottom of manifold and it was good I had plenty of water flow but i still had smoke instantly after starting motor. Then i remembered hearing about a glitch in the computer system so i decided to try turing off the main power (i figured what the **** worth a shot) After turning it off then back on i started the boat and the check engine light went away and i no longer had any smoke what so ever and the boat ran great. Im stumped on this. I think it was my alternator that was causing the smoke after all this but not sure. Im looking for some help because i don't want to cause any damage or wind up stranded.

That's a lot of hours in just a few years. There is a computer that tracks codes (like in a car). Your nautique mechanic can pull the codes (you can't buy a cheap reader like you can for a car). It likely will tell you why the CEL was on. I hope so anyway. The light will come on for low voltage as seen in this post: http://www.planetnautique.com/vb5/fo...-330-excalibur
However, your boat went into "limp mode" which the above poster did not see. However, this guy DID see limp mode due to low-voltage: http://www.planetnautique.com/vb5/fo...3715-limp-mode
but he doesn't mention the CEL - just can't win.
Anyway - I'm betting you're right about the alternator. If it is physically smoking you can have two issues arise - well 3 if you count being stranded. The others are that it could seize and your belt will burn off and also it can over or under power your batteries and they will need replacing. Check your voltage gauge and see what it says. You can also shut the boat off and check the voltage of the battery while it's attached the boat - there should be almost no fluctuation. If there is, the alternator is bad (although this isn't the only was an alternator fails so it could still be bad).

Yeah i know its alot of hours but I took a chance knowing the boat history and I got a three year warranty so I'm covered for now. I did notice that when the boat was running my volt gauge was staying at 14v which i thought was high. I think it should only be at 12.5v running but not positive. I am taking it into dealer asap just wish my local dealers service department was open on weekends so a working guy like me could drop it off. There only open tues-friday 8-5pm so I'm SOL for now

14volts is fine. 12.5v at idle is ok.
Is possible that the impeller is not working. You should check the water strainer.
You never stated anything about temp... but in the past this boat could have had an impeller go out, and there could be part of it that got lodged in a passage way.?.?2001 Super Sport - GT40 1986 SN2001 - 351 1973 Cobalt - 188/888 2014 F150 Screw 3.5 twin turbo 2011 Expy 2002 F150 SCrew 2001 F150 SCrew 1973 K5 (toy) 1995 Burb 3/4 454 1991 K5 Blazer (DD/Toy) 1987 Honda Accord 1978 Ford F100 1981 Merc Capri 1991 Honda Civic 2002 Ninja 500R sold...
