Bought First Nautique '85 2001 a few questions for you

Just picked up my first Nautique and inboard boat and am in the process of adding a Tower, Perfect Pass, Heater, Shower and Stereo. Here are my questions:
This is an '85 with Chevy 350 engine

    1) When un-winterizing does the impeller need to be "primed" before entering the lake?

    2) Where have people been installing the stereo along with speakers.

    3) When installing perfectpass where have people put the perfectpass wheel or ball thingy. (That's technical jargon for I have no idea what the heck I'm talking about)

90 degree rule is in effect here id South Dakota. Our rule is Air Temp + Water Temp = 90, then it's more than warm enough to hydro-foil.

...most people need 64 ounces of water a day
    ---I need 927 acres

I think I should be able to find some pictures of where people have mounted their paddle wheels too.

Congratulation. 1 when putting the impellor back in after winterizing I use a little KY jelly to lube it You don't have to do this or prime it but it make me feel better about spinning for the 5-8 seconds it takes to prime. 2. In the boat Yellow_Flash_Colorz: I think Hollywood has that one covered. 3. PP should be able to tell you where the best location is on a 2001. It sounds like Hollywood may have that one covered to. Welcome, Have fun I love the 90 degree rule except here in San Diego we don't ski if it drops below 120

Here are some more speaker ideas. Personally, I prefer the reciever in the glove box, out of the way and better protected from water. Another distraction to eliminate from the driver.

Make sure you use really good marine silicone. I installed one in a 2000 ski. it is not that bad, just very nervouse cutting a hole into the hull. good luck.

Pump: If you pulled the impellor, just use a little dish soap when reinstalling it.

Stereo & Speaker locations: I didn't want to cut into my dash. So, I bought an enclosure from Crutchfield and put it behind the spotter chair. I don't listen to music much when pulling skiers...so the location is not inconvienent. In regards to the speaker locations, I don't think you have ski pockets.....so, I'm not sure what to tell you. Sorry.

Perfect Pass: I wish I had experience with it. Yellow_Flash_Colorz:

I personally reccomend using garage door frame angle iron, bolted under the gunwales, with speakers hanging off of it, and mounting the head unit in place of the mirror and buying an aftermarket mirror that mounts to the top of the windshield. As shown here http://www.the2001.com/modules.php?s...view_album.php

I've found that to be a less invasive, yet still great sounding method. Removing that mirror was one of the best things we did in a long time. Amazing gain for such a simple project.

Good idea on the channel under the gunwales. Removing the mirror and replacing it with the stereo was also a good idea.

It appears that you shifted the mirror brackets. I wonder if you could have fabricated some additional brackets to attach to your existing brackets. Thus, you might not have had to move the orginal bracket location. ???? Sorry, I hate the thought of extra holes in my dash but I like the concept. Good ideas!

                      Shoedad,

I have never primed an impeller and I haven’t installed perfect pass yet.

As for the stereo I have a similar speaker setup as Hollywood’s first install. For the amps and cap, I found the best place for me was up under the dash. I mounted two amps and the cap on a piece of Medex and using L brackets screwed it from behind the observer seat and up into the cross member under the windshield. It works great. It’s way out of the way and if you orient the amps the right way, tuning them is a breeze

I didn’t install a deck. I don’t own any CD’s anymore and just run an IPod, and soon satellite, straight to the amps. For me it was the cleanest way to go about it. No holes, no damage just a clean 2001 without looking deeper.

I only have pics now of the board. If you like I can shoot some others of the final install with the 12" sub and 4 6x9's.

It wouldn't hurt to hook a fake-a-lake up to it after you install the impeller. If nothing else, it lets you know for sure your boat is going to start and run before you haul it out to the lake.

Becareful what you put on the impeller because it is rubber and some things will break it down. I don't know about all dish soaps, but at least some will break down rubbers.

I've always used castor oil. I soak it in that stuff for 20 min, then rinse it off and pop it in. Just remember if you don't have it primed, you only have a few minutes before the engine will over heat. I'm not sure about your yr model, but the older boats (such as mine) require some speed to force the water up into the system if it isn't primed. Once the water is flowing it will continue to flow at idle and from a start, but if it is empty it needs a little help.

I asked the current owner of BIGMAC's old '86.

"I took measurements of the paddle wheel location today. The edge of the through-hull unit is 3" from the center line of the boat and 3" aft of the starboard engine mount."
