2009 SANTE with 343 overheated cracked muffler

I had the boat in shallow water Sat. Depth read 1.6-2ft for about 50 yards in a canal. The next day with in 10 minutes of being out i smell burning rubber and the boat goes into 'power reduction - see dealer' mode. I turn engine off and notice a crack in the muffler and hear a bubbling noise. Would i be crazy to think that the shallow water the day before was the reason for this? Maybe sucked up some mud that clogged the cooling system? Im going to pull water pump impellar to see what it looks like.

My questions are:
1 - The muffler looks to be fiberglass. Can i take this to a fiberglass shop and have it fixed instead of buying new muffler?
2- Other than the water pump impellar is there anything else that would cause the overheating?

You can have those mufflers repaired and how did the strainer look?

The strainer had a little bit of mud in it. Not terrible. Is a little mud enough to ruin an impellar or clog restrict water flow?

Is this repairable by a fiberglass guy?

I don't think a little mud would ruin an impeller, that being said it would still be worth taking a look at it. I'm not a fiberglass repairs guy. And I'm sure someone will chime it. Maybe even email your pics to a repair shop and get thier opinion.

That should be fixable, probably.

You might also consider replacing the exhaust hoses, since it must have gotten pretty hot in order to do that.

It's amazing what can clog up an intake... My personal thought is that muffler may be toast... Possibly a good Fiberglass person could fix it... But it has to be a strong repair.

I would be more worried that there is still some crap in the engine block cooling ducts, it would probably be a good idea to open up all the drain ports and make sure everything is coming out clean a couple of times.

Isnt there a little more to the muffler than the outer shell, on a car there would be baffles and chambers to reduce the noise - not sure about a boat though...

My friends Supra had the same thing happen. He tried repairing the mufflers, but wouldnt hold. The engine got very hot to crack the mufflers. He 1) flushed cooling system, 2) changed oils and fluids, 3) tried to repair the mufflers, but after some hours, leaked.

You can try, but I would keep a good eye on them. There is likely more damage under the outer skin.
