    Neutral Ring Loose??

Our throttle lever goes from neutral to forward or reverse without having to lift that ring, I am wondering what the problem may be and how to fix it. I can put the lever in to the straight up and down position for neutral but as soon as i want to put it in forward all i have to do is push it to that throttle up position without lifting that ring to engage it. It makes me a little nervous because all a person would have to do is bump it good enough and were off to the races kind of deal. Maybe I am wrong but I am pretty positive you need to pull that lever up in order to put it into forward or reverse? Also this is our first SANTE so i am still learning things. Any help would be great.

    Thanks

You are correct that you should have to pull the safety ring up to engage it into gear. I'm not sure how to fix a broken one though. Hopefully someone will chime in.

That is what I figured, but didn't want to tear into it not knowing what to look for.

If I recall I know that there is a little metal tab on mine that moves when I lift the ring.

Not sure if yours is the same as mine but, mine was doing the same thing. On the side of the throttle lever towards the gunwale there is a little groove and you can see the spring that makes it lock into neutral. Maybe your spring is corroded or sticking. Hit mine with some corrosion x and worked it around and it works fine now.
