    Trailer bunks

Quick question. I need to replace trailer bunks and was wondering if I need to use treated wood. I live in a new development and there is a lot of 2x4 and 2x6 from framing the houses that I can use.

It depends on how often you want to replace them... The non pressure treated wood will not last as long as the pt.

I would use treated wood... Untreated will not last long at all IMO

Replacing mine with treated. The ones that were on there were non-treated wood. I also used Stainless hardware that I can re-use the next time.

You should also be able to pick up Monel staples. They will resist rusting a lot longer than regular steel staples.

Normally Monel is better than stainless, but the chemicals in pressure treated wood will cause Monel staples to corrode quickly. Certain types of stainless and maybe galvanized steel can be used with pressure treated wood. I don't recall right now what is the best metal to use. The wood will still cause those fasteners to corrode, but not as quickly as Monel. Also if end up using pressure treated wood, make sure that there is a solid layer of paint left on your trailer bunk brackets(the side that the bunks sit on). Pressure treated wood in direct contact with unprotected steel will cause the steel to corrode quickly.
