Thought I would share my experience with everyone about gel coat repair. I recently had some VERY bad luck with my boat. Left my new to me G23 on one of my best friends and neighbors mooring ball on our lake. I was going to pick up my new trailer for the boat the next day. I had originally been given a 2016 trailer (I have a 2013 G23). The dealer told me a 2016 would fit and after the fact I found that to not be true. That's a whole other story that I'm still upset about. However, that night it was on the mooring, the line decided to break and allowed my boat to go floating off into the neighbors jet ski lift. We have left our boats on that mooring countless times but I drew the short straw this time I guess.
I was was terribly nervous about doing this repair, but with the bill being over $1000 to repair, I figured I couldn't screw it up very much more than it was and it was worth $60 to try and do myself. I have never ever done any sort of gelcoat repair before. I did lots of research online and watched a lot of diy videos and I set out and did it over this past weekend. I followed Grant's write up on wake world and adapted to my situation of where the damage was(corner and bottom of hull)
To anyone out there who is nervous about doing this now or in the future, don't be. If you do none of your own maintenance and shiver at the thought of holding any kind of tools in your hands then yeah maybe don't do this, but if you like getting your hands dirty and like the satisfaction of diy, this is totally doable.
