    Impeller problems

Back story. This will be my second season owning this boat ( any boat), and my first time starting it up after winterization. 2003 210 Team Edition

I took the boat out on the water for the first time to check that everything worked well before the holiday. Started up just fine but started to over heat the moment I got above 2000 rpms. Got it back on the trailer and took it home. The dealer I bought the boat from said they replaced the impeller but I figured that would be the first thing to check. So I found Jeff's step by step and got busy. The moment I pull off the incoming water hose I find a large chunk of rubber. Problem solved. HOWEVER where is the dang belt tensioning bolt. I cannot seem to find that bolt or figure a way to do it without damaging anything.

If anyone has a picture or is able to describe which bolt I need to loosen up to get the stupid belt off that would be amazing!

    Thanks,
    Nate

page 39-42 covers the accessory drive belt, the 5.7L is on age 42. Shows the two bolts to loosen to remove the two belts.

    Hope this helps!

Glad you found the issue. My guess would be the dealer put the impeller in the wrong way, meaning they spun it wrong so the flanges were all bent the wrong way. At first start up this gets reversed and breaks them off. I did that one year myself so I learned the hard way!

The impeller got replaced successfully and worked excellent in my back yard on the hose. However, on the lake yesterday it drove fine for about 25 min at about 155F, then instantly shot up to about 210F and I went into limp mode. My current guess is that I did not get all of the rubber pieces out of the hoses and I have a block some where. I am thinking the next step would be to tear apart the thermostat housing to see if something is jammed in there? The impeller housing stays at a cool temperature even with the engine overheating, so I know that the impeller is still pulling water. It just isn't going anywhere.

          Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Check your water strainer for air leaks/tightness. Mine was doing something similar and that was the culprit.

Check the strainer like was mentioned... The o-ring in my strainer started to let air around it and would cause the impeller to loose suction, not pull water, and then burn up.

As far as bits of the old impeller... The output hose off the raw water pump goes to the v-drive cooler, then to the transmission heat exchanger, before finally going to the engine. Remove the hose going to the v-drive and back-flush it with a water hose or even blow through it using your mouth. That is where the majority of the pieces get stuck when I shred an impeller. It may be worth removing the top of the v-drive where the heat exchanger is as well to make sure nothing it blocking flow, but my guess is most of the parts will be in the hose still.

I was finally able to take a look at it today. It seams that I no longer have a gasket on the strainer, and now that I am thinking about it, I cant remember the last time I saw it. That may have been part of the problem I had after putting the new impeller in and it not priming. So, ordering a new one from Nautiqueparts.

core-rider, I already flushed the hose from the impeller to the v drive. And yes, it was FULL of little rubber pieces. I might still take the Vdrive cover off, if anything just for the experience. Although I am guessing the gasket is my issue.

                Thanks for the replies guys!
