Best place to get transmission 2002 SS

First ride this season, and my transmission or vdrive unit developed chattering sound and then my engine stalled. I couldnt start it again and it felt like smth is locked out. What is the way to diagnose if it is transmission or vdrive? All fluids are ok.
Is it better to rebuild or buy new and what are costs of it. Also how hard it is to replace it yourself.

Good news, I was able to start it today. My starter locked out so I knocked on it few times and engine started. Prop spins in both directions so it is not a transmission but I still have a grinding sound somewhere around transmission and engine area and it sounds like starter's flywheel is not disengaging. I m gonna check starter tomorrow. Anyone had similar symptoms?

It's a starter, I'm a lucky guy. Just look how those teeth are grinded
