Replace docking halogen lights to LED?

Has anyone ever replaced the MR16 Halogen 50 Watt Docking light bulbs to LED? If so, do you know which LED bulbs were used? I tried to find 50 watt equivalent in LED for the MR16 type bulb and it seemed like nothing correlated to 50 Watts. If I go LED I would assume I want the Spotlight type LED version for docking lights?

okay so if you got them at Lowes I've seen the MR16 LED version. However, I noticed on the package it said something like 12 watts equivalent and was thinking it would be nice to get the 50 watt equivalent, but maybe that is overkill when it comes to LED version

I don't know why you wouldn't want the option with the most output... I say brighter is better for what your using them for - docking the boat or navigating.

I'm sorry I can't remember the actual wattage, but I am pretty sure I put the 50W equivalent in, which just had more LED's in the light than the lower ones. I believe 5-5 LED's in the light. I feel it is brighter and it barely moves the volt meter if at all, whereas the halogens were a pretty good draw.

I have replaced the Halogen 50W ones with LED ones - I used these: https://www.amazon.com/Halogen-Equiv.../dp/B00XBZ16PO - brighter than original, not hot at all, and shouldn't have to replace again down the road! Uses 6.5 Watts and says to be equivalent of 50W Halogen - like I said, seems brighter than orig to me though.

Thanks bdisney3. I will check that out. I did a test on my volts and when you turn on the mfg 50w halogens it drops the volts 1.2 volts (went from 12.7 to 11.5 instantly). So getting rid of the halogens is the way to go for sure! Looks like you are in PHX. I was there from 05-2012 after I move from Hawaii to phx. Loved it there, grew into the wake community big time. Lots of friends out there for sure and the AWA. I was always the outlaw tho since I sponsored/support Ronix and they are big hyperlite/LF community. lol..

Did you end up getting these? This is on my winter upgrade list.

                  Thanks!

Yes I did end up getting them and they are much brighter!! took me about 20 min to switch them out. When I would turn my old ones on the voltage drop was like 1.3 volts. When I turn the new ones on the voltage drops 0.1. (if I recall)

Do you change these bulbs from the backside or pulling the lenses off the front outside of the bow?

you have to take the lens off. BUT, be careful with the springs that hold the bulb down once you take off the lens. You can stretch these and or ruin them. So I basically took one of the springs off carefully and then pulled the bulb, then replaced with new LED, then re-attached the spring. Then screwed the lens back on, Voila.
