1995 super sport should bilge pumps work without ignition switch depressed?

I was hoping to keep my boat in the water for a couple weekends so I'm trying to get the bilge figured out. I have both and "auto" and "manua"l bilge buttons. The only way my pumps run is with manual bilge button depressed with the ignition switch on. Doesn't that mean the operation hours will increase?
My automatic button lights up when the ignition on but pumps do not work. Neither works without ignition switch depressed. A side note...I have two 500 gph "rule" fully automatic pumps

I know this is old but what I found was the ignition switch has to be on and auto bilge on, manual bilge is not left on.

AND, the ignition switch doesn't add to hours...I leave mine on all the time because I do forget to turn it off but it's convenient when I want to be able to open the trunk without jumping into boat to turn ig on.

I have a '95 SS as well and the auto bilge works without the ignition on. The engine comp trunk opens without the ignition too, so I'm guessing someone rewired those. We leave it in the water overnight and take the keys out
