I am quite mechanically inclined, and anal-retentive. As such, I don't allow others to change my oil. I am coming from a Cobalt/Volvo. The only way to extract the oil from that engine was via pump through the dipstick (which I detest). Please tell me I can change the oil in the H6 the old fashioned/redneck way, via drain plug... Is the the proper M1 oil filter the M1-301? My G23/H6 gets delivered Wednesday, so I'll figure it out soon, but am just curious... Thanks.
One more item, not to hi-jack the thread (but it appears that many are discussing oil on this thread as well)... What is the final answer for those who have been changing their own oil on suitable oil for the 2016/17 H6DI?

I'm the same way! You can do this but only if the boat is out of the water. You will need to build an extension hose that connects to the drain hose because the current drain hose is not long enough to reach the drain plug. You can find the fittings and the hose at Home Depot and build an extension hose that screws into the factory drain hose to reach the drain plug. However you will need to let the engine drain over night (at least) because the oil will run very slowly with this length of hose. I tried it and it took over 12 hours to completely drain the oil (in the spring temp of 65 degrees). Expect faster for summer time.
However I believe it is much more efficient to get an oil extractor and build a hose connection to connect from the oil extractor to the engine drain hose. This way you can pull the oil from the engine from the drain hose which is at the lowest point in the sump pan. This can be done while the boat is in the water too so the oil can be hot. I prefer this over using the dip stick extractors because the dip stick does not always guarantee reaching the bottom of the sump.
Last night I posted my question on the PCM website. PCM responded this morning with the following statement:
"We use and recommend the Shell Penzoil Rotella15w-40 which is available just about anywhere including Walmart, yes this is a highly recommended oil for Diesel engines as well as gasoline engines."
They pointed me to Shell Rotella T4 since Shell Rotella T is no longer being produced.
From the Shell Rotella T4 website: Manufacturer Information
Formula Shell
FormulaShell® MOTOR OIL is a motor oil formulated for improved fuel economy and to provide the engine protection and performance required by engine manufacturers. It is compatible with other conventional and synthetic oils. It exceeds all automobile and light truck warranty requirements for gasoline and turbocharged engines where an API SM and ILSAC GF-4 oil is recommended. Protects against wear, rust and corrosion, piston scuffing and combustion chamber deposits, high-temperature oxidation and valve train wear.

Thank you so much for finally answering this question for us. I have used Shell Rotella for years in my boats. I'm glad to hear I've been doing the right thing.

Finally, I thought I would show pictures of my oil drain extension hose and the oil extractor that I configured to connect to the oil drain hose of the H6 engine. The extractor works great and takes about 30-40 min to change the oil ensuring I pull out every drop of used oil. The only downside is this particular extractor has a limit of 6 qts, so I can't pull all of the oil without stopping to empty the extractor tank (oil capacity is recommended to 7qts). But at the time I could not find a higher capacity oil extractor that would easily adapt to the fitting for connecting to the H6 engine oil drain hose.
