How would an simer pump let water past the impellor

Years ago I replaced my filling pumps with Simer reversible impellor pumps just so that I didn't have to deal with the cable actuated on/off valves. Things have worked great for years and as of late, my port side fat sac is filling up while underway so, I must assume that the simer pump is letting water past the impeller and filling the sac. Don't know how or why this would happen.

I think with other pumps this is usually simply the impellers. Others can chime in but that is what I heard...Maybe just upgrade to newest impeller.
