Streaming Leak Around Rudder Post - My Plan to Fix

I have a significant streaming leak at the bottom of my Nautique rudder post. The bilge runs about every two minutes so I have to fix this quickly. My plan is to loosen the top lock nut and then tighten the packing nut until the leak stops. I could really use advice on my plan and any other tips. I have attached a photo of the rudder shaft. I'm sweating bullets on this one. Thank you.

Try tightening packing nut, if it is still leaking after that you may need to replace the packing.

And it's no big deal, breaking the nuts loose could be a challenge though

Clean your bilge out while you are down there. Simple green works great.

If that is blower hose, needs to be re-mounted so it can effectively vent the bildge
