    2003 210 over heating

A couple of days ago I noticed that the water filter was clogged up with weeds. Cleaned out the filter and put back in place. Next day when we take the boat out it starts to over heat. I looked at the impeller and it was shot and I've replaced it. When I let the boat sit in idle the temp slowly starts to rise and again over heats. Is there something else I should be checking?

Make sure the strainer cup is air tight and leak free. Also check to make sure all hose clamps are tight.

When you replaced your impeller did you flush the hose?

I did. Disconnected the hose after the raw water filter and pump water through it when the engine on. After a few minutes the engine quiets down and starts to cool.

I replaced the t stat today I thought i had it. Sat in idle for a good 10 minutes but then slowly spike up on heat. The impeller I got was from a local dealership and was not a Sherwood. It fits but I wonder if it's not right. Anyone ever experience issue with a off brand impeller?

There should be a small gasket on the top of the strainer cup. Make sure yours is still there and in good shape. Also, the strainer cup could be cracked causing an air leak.

I put vasiline on my o ring and my problem that was similar to yours stopped. It ended up having a small leak by the threads of the cup closest to my strainer. Now all is well! Hope it works for you.

there is a known issue with a certain range of raw water pumps on the 03's that actually got recalled. there are several threads on here that discuss it at length.

you could also be having an issue with the off brand impeller. i only ever use the correct part number from sherwood on mine ... when the temp starts to get up on it, reach down and see if the pump is hot (watch your hands and fingers, lol). if it is, the pump is not maintaining prime. can then check that impeller, change to a new one, etc.

Fixed! It was the wrong impeller after all. Lesson learned on who you buy parts from...
