1996 Super Sport GT-40 Starter Issue

    Hey guys

Sometimes when I turn the key. They boat doesn't want to turn over. None of the gauges will light up, or perfect pass won't turn on etc

I will then turn the key back and forth and then it will start, I was wondering if this could be the starter solenoid/relay?

Also when it does crank over it almost sounds like the starter is staying engaged for a second and there is a faint grinding sound that will go away after a couple seconds

Hoping you guys can point me in the right direction. I always do all my maintenance on my own but this one has stumped me so far

    thanks

I have encountered similar issues with my 98' SS. Started solenoid 1st issue and ignition switch failed about a year later. In your case with no gauges lighting up and starter possibly staying engaged. I would lean towards ignition switch and / or connections at switch.

Yeah I have already changed the factory ignition switch so I am kind of thinking it could be the starter solenoid.

Could the solenoid keep the starter engaged causing the grinding sound if it is starting to
      Fail?

Yes, starter solenoid could cause starter to stay engaged but it could also be the starter itself failing, sounds like the bendix drive is not releasing quick enough.
