    2002 SAN prop choice

my 02 SAN came with a 644 13.25 x 16 which I read is a great all around prop. My plan is to install after market ballast to increase the capacity over the stock locker and belly hard tanks. My plan is to run 400 in each locker, a custom made belly sac coming in at 495 lbs, and 200 lbs of lead in the nose. So that's about 1500 lbs of ballast total and which leads in my question: should I go with the 1578 13.5 x 14.25 prop?

I dont int really mind if it costs me 5 mph on the top end so long as I get good speed holding for surfing and good performance out of the hole. Does 1500 lbs qualify as "heavily weighted" which I understand the 1578 prop is for?

Oh and I will always be running with at least 4-6 people in the boat plus a full tank of gas so the weight will add up pretty quick beyond my 1500lbs of ballast

I have an 06 so the numbers are different for rotation but same props. After upgrading to 750's in the rear and piggybacking a 500 bow sac off the belly tank the 645 still did fine for wakeboarding unless there were 6+ in the rear of the boat, then it had a **** of a time getting on plane. If you plan on surfing I think the 1578 is a must. I run the 1579 99% of the time now, haven't compared the efficiency to the 645 while wakeboarding but it gets up and goes no matter how many people and ballast is in the boat. It will overrev my 06 though if you aren't paying attention.

The 1578 is an ideal choice for your prop. You have way too much weight in the front for surfing and will need a lot more in the rear/middle. You'll also need an additional sack inside the cabin if you want a good sized surf wake. My old surf setup went like this: 750 in the rear surf side on top of the factory tank, factory ballast all full and one 1100 lb sack behind the driver's seat. We only surfed goofy. Never tried regular.

Sounds like 750s in the rear would provide for a better weight distribution given what I will have in the belly and bow.... I want to avoid having to weight favorably to the port or starboard so I should also note I will be running the mission delta plate as well as Iv heard good reviews on here about it.

Either 1236 or 1578. I ran the 1236 and loved it. I would run over 3k in ballast and it handled it no problem. 1236 is same as 1578 with just a little more cup. The reasoning on the extra cup was extra grip on the water when spinning, reducing prop slip and increasing fuel economy. Did it save me gas? Who knows and who cares when you're running that much weight. We did think it got out of the hole better than my buddies 06 with the 1579 (left hand rotation equivalent) but that could have been the motor difference, since most people think the GT40 had better torque than the chevy 330 motor.

Thanks I didn't know about the 1236... I'll look it up. I think I have enough feed back here to commit to the 1578/1236.

I think the 1578 and 1236 were so similar that ACME just discontinued the 1236 all together... I think the only difference was the cup measurements between the two....?

Yes the only difference was 1236 had a little more cup.
