    94 sport radio?

Ok so I just bought a 94 sport and upon test driving the boat noticed the radio would only stay on at a low volume. Bought the boat since I have some knowledge with stereos, and planned on simply solving the problem myself. So I pulled the head unit, and inspected the wiring and noticed the head unit is directly tied into the dash gauges hot and ground, and constant I believe (yellow) or whatever that wire is called. And then directly wired into the speakers. This is bad is it not? My gauges seem to respond slow such as speedo, and the RPMs feel off. My volt gauge constantly bangs from 12 to 14 I think. And I've noticed the fuel gauge to show different readings depending on when you look at it. My question is do I simply just run new power and ground to the battery with a fuse in line on the power near the battery. And remove all wires tied into the dash. And just directly wire into my speakers from the head unit? Any info or things I should be cautious about?

Many Nautiques from your era have similar dash/voltage/ground issues. I believe the dash wiring is correct for the radio, you will have the radio tied into the ignition breaker to receive power. You could try cleaning/checking your grounds and verifying correct voltage. To fix your RPM issue, there is a little dial on the back of the RPM gauge, try turning that back and forth a little or make sure it set on the correct number (I forget what that is, maybe 8 or something). The speedos are connected via tubes that receive water pressure from the back of the boat, take them off and make sure they are free of debris. Good luck.
