    Excalibur engine maintenance

I have an 03' SAN with the Excalibur motor with right around 630 hours and I haven't even touched the motor other than regular oil and fuel filter changes. I haven't noticed any performance changes but, when are spark plug, wires, cap and rotor replacement scheduled?

If it's never been done then now would be a good time. If it runs fine then it doesn't necessarily need everything but it's good, cheap preventive maintenance to just do it all in one shot and have that piece of mind while your out on the lake.

There is not necessarily a schedule, as required/needed works. I am at about the same hours on my 05', if you are unaware of when any of those things were changed last I would probably do a complete tune up (plugs, cap, rotor) next spring if it runs fine the rest of the season. Note in your manual date/hrs and you can then change things as needed from there. Mine seems to chew up caps a bit, heard it is a know issue, the low pressure fuel pump puked at around 500hrs, otherwise all has been well.

Change the plugs, plug wires, and cap as well as transmission, engine, and v-drive oils whenever it will give you a piece of mind that all is well. Our boat has almost 1100 hours. Previous owner did whatever the Nautique dealer told them needed to be done which was probably overkill. All oils were clean looking and plug wires and plugs looked new. I probably won't change plugs, wires, and cap until ~1500 but I will check them yearly for fouling. I will also check the v-drive and transmission oils monthly. I will change everything but the oil whenever it seems like they need it. Oil is every 50--60 hours for me and that is based on how quickly the oil breaks down (turns darker). That gives me piece of mind. Your schedule may be different and you will get a wide range of timetables for these maintenance items from people on here. Again change them whenever you feel they need it and that will give you the most comfort that your boat is being maintained well enough.

Okay, bigger question. What plugs are people running?
