    Throttle position Sensor? - CEL Code 2126 and 2140 - '08 SAN 230

I have a 2008 SAN 230 with the 390 engine. It only has 170 hours on it. I bought it in 2015 with 74 hours on it. It has been running great but recently the check Engine Light (CEL) has been coming on, seemingly, randomly. During use, the CEL will come on and sometimes quickly go off and other times it takes me backing off the throttle and coming back to idle before it clears. I took it to the dealer to read the codes and they told me the following:

    2140 TCP2Low
    2126 TCP 1&2 High

I told them I wanted to do my own research about what this was simply because it seems to be a blackhole sometimes with dealers to figure things out. Anyways, they did not have any immediate insight as to what this is.

I saw one post that said it may be an issue with the Throttle Control Position Sensor. Does anyone have anymore feedback about this?

I've put about 20 hours on the boat since this has been happening and it has not had any negative effects, that I can tell. No loss of power or different sounds of note.

Any help is appreciated. I am an Engineer and pretty handy. I'd prefer to fix it myself but don't want to start throwing money at a bunch of parts.

I've been doing some more research via PCMs manuals.

It appears the codes are related to the Throttle Control Position (hence...TCP) rather than the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). From what I am reading, it appears there is a redundant set of throttle controls (FPP1 and FPP2) that get sent to the ECM. They are redundant to ensure the engine does not get a false signal (I assume). Anyways, the ECM appears to evaluate these signals and throw an error code if they too much different (more than 20%).

2126 indicates that FPP1 is more than 20% greater than FPP2.

2140 appears to be indicate that Idle Validation Switch is off AND FPP1 is having a voltage issue related to a short.

I think I follow that, but if I change out the TCP and I still have a short, I would think I would still have a problem. I wonder what is causing the short?

    Thoughts?

I replaced TCP and that did the trick. It was easy to do and the cost was about 150.

Outstanding! Thanks for coming back here with the resolution. These threads do get searched and having the solution here is very helpful.

Same here, PCM ZR6 2010 409. We Replace the TPS and it was fine! Thanks for the info here on the forum.
Note: PCM change the part (RA119005 to RA119005A than you need to update de ECM, you need the dealer..)

Where is the TCP located. Is it plug and play?

At the top of the engine. (only if you have the 119005A mounted than is it plug and play).

I am having similar issues. Did you have to get the ECM updated to install the new TCP?

If you're talking about TCP part # R119005A, then yes you must have the ECM flashed for it to work. The earlier folks in this thread didn't have to do that because part number R119005 was still available then. The "A" version has only been around for about the last 18 months. My understanding is the original manufacturer of R119005 was acquired by another company and stopped making these parts. So Nautique had to find a new supplier and the new parts uses different voltages than the original part. That's why the ECM must be flashed.

Mine broke at the mounting plate but the electrical is still good. Will see if JB Weld holds up for repair but may end up with a new one. I read a Ball of Spray post on ECM flashing when changing R11905.

"sent ours FedEx on a Friday, back in the boat the following Wednesday and running fine.

                    You can return your ecm for the new throttle calibration to;

I have a 2012 sante 230 zr6 409hp with the dtc 2140 came up most times accelerating dtc 2126 stored counts but I never saw that one set. I had the RA119005 picked up the RA 119005A. The dealer said the ECM doesn’t need to be recalibrated unless I had an o2 code. So even though the instructions that come in the box with the RA119005A state recalibration is required I put it in and so far so good no more active codes or CEL.

Hi Rickstir, you wouldn't happen to have a picture of your original part hey? Wondering if its same as mine as I also need to order the retrofit but want to confirm the no ecm flash required piece. Here is a pic of mine:Click image for larger version

I contacted a different tech at the Kelowna dealer and he figured it needed to be recalibrated. I used the boat for about 10 hours and the only thing I noticed was a flat spot on acceleration between 1200- 1400 rpm. So I took it in yesterday to get the recalibration done. I had the same TCPS as your picture. I haven’t put it back in to see if the flat spot is gone. I will post the result. The TCPS was $525.00 with tax Canadian and the calibration was $244.

I'm getting the same codes on my boat. Ordered the TCPS which will be here in 10 days. Will post with results.

The flat spot on acceleration is gone and all is good now.
