    2001 SAN 210 GT40- Dies Under Load

Typing from my phone so bare with me.

When I first bought the boat it would randomly die and trip a breaker while crusing. You would have to wait about 15 min then reset breaker and it was good to go rest of day. Finally figured out it was the low pressure fuel pump). Replaced beginning of last summer and no more issues.

Today it did almost the same thing. The difference was, it does it under load (coming onto plane) and it spits and sputters before it dies. Cranked it back up and was easing back to the dock. Started to throttle up and it did it again. Waited 20 minutes, pulled off from dock, hammered it, and as it planed, spit sputter die and won't restart.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Have some friends supposed to be coming from out of town this coming up weekend to hit the lake.

It doesn't act up at all during start up and idle. Just when you get on it? If so, first inclination is it could be starving for fuel...Fuel filter clogged?

Also revs fine in neutral. Only under a load. 4-5 seconds of full throttle then sputter and die. And won't crank back up for a bit.

Check fuel filter and also check for a stuck check valve in your feed line from tank to low pressure pump. Check valve will be in the aluminum fitting that's attaches the low pressure feed line to the tank itself. Iv heard of those getting stuck and as a result they restrict the flow of fuel.

Where is the fuel filter? Never noticed one. And how would I check that check valve?

Just read you can rev it up fine in neutral which means it may not be fuel starvation.... Pretty sure Iv read about this same issue before either on here or correct craft fan.... Someone might chime in who can remember what the fix was.

Fuel filter is in the canister of your high pressure fuel pump. Check valve can be tested by blowing into the check valve from the feed hose taken off your low pressure fuel pump. If you can blow into it it's stuck as it should not allow fuel or air to pass back into the tank.

Still could be starvation. Fuel consumption in neutral is much less than under load, I believe.

I had similar problems a couple summers ago, turned out to be both fuel pumps going bad. Started out with the LPP, that worked fine for a week-end. Then the HPP went bad. I've been running on both the pumps for two seasons now, no issues. Also, make sure you don't have any water in your fuel as that tends to make these symptoms worse.

I doubt water in the fuel, as I got 35 gallons at the marina Saturday morning, rode all day Saturday, and 27 more sunday morning and rode a little before I started having issues.

How big of a job is it to replace the high pressure fuel pump?

It's easy once you get in the FCC canister. The problem can be opening the FCC up. Usually it has to go in a vice and can be a real bear! Also make sure to replace the FCC filter while you have it open
