how are my engine parameters?

Hey guys,

Got a good FULL weekend of water-skiing out on the lake with my kids on the 1993 SN I just bought. I wanted to check on some gauge parameters, to see if everything looks OK. The boat ran, smooth as silk. My Temps on the gauge were constantly in the 135-140F RANGE, and my PSI was around 60-65 or so all the time. Also, my RPM's at idle seem a bit high...when sitting on the lake in neutral/idle it was around 850 rpms. Should I lower the idle speed a bit? I mea she idles nice and smooth at that rpm, but just wasn't sure if I should lower it a bit. My old I/O idle was around 700 rpm

Looks to me like you're probably OK on most readings.

According to the 1993 PCM Engines Manual, 35 - 40 PSI at 2,000 RPM's is normal. Yours is a little high. Which oil is in your engine right now?

Temperatures of 140 - 170 is normal. You could opt for a 160* thermostat to bring the temperature up a bit if you prefer. It sounds like you have a 143* in there now, which is fine.

Idle RPM's of 550 - 700 IN GEAR are normal. Yours may be a bit high, but not terrible. Adjust your throttle cable or carb if you want to bring it down a bit.

Thanks for that info...all very helpful. Yeah, I believe the the thermostat is the 143F right now. I can always change that. I am not sure what oil is in now. I just bought it a couple weeks ago, so I can probably find out from the place that does their winterization and upkeep. I think I'll adjust the idle down a bit to try and hit about 700 rpms in neutral idle.

I checked with the shop that did the last oil change, last fall..they used 20w50 oil in it. Also, I read the PCM engine manual top to bottom a couple times (thanks for posting) and it said further down that oil PSI can be anywhere between 35-65psi
