2001 Air Nautique Starboard Key Pad Malfunction

I have a 2001 Air Nautique. The starboard keypad randomly malfunctions ( all the lights become lit ) when we attempt to type in the code to start the boat. In order to bypass it is necessary to keep pushing the bilge pump button until the light goes off. Once off the you can press start and the boat will start no problem.

We have noticed while doing a little trouble shooting that if we disconnect the starboard key pad the issue goes away.

We have had the PME reset...

Anyone heard or had this issue. I have a hard time shelling out $500 without knowing for sure if it is the starboard keypad.

Hi,
I had a similar problem a few years back. My starboard keypad was locking out my port keypad. Disconnecting the starboard allowed me to use the port one to start the boat. I didn't replace mine but what I did do was completely strip down the starboard pad and clean it. Not very easy because the circuit board inside is encased in 1/2" thick rubber. I carefully cut the rubber back to reach the board. Even though it was inside the rubber I still found some of the soldered joints to be corroded and some had dry soldered joints which I re soldered. This worked for me, however it is very time consuming and fiddly. Living in the uk means it can be very expensive to buy a new keypad with current exchange rate, shipping and import taxes.
