Cracked ballast in 07 226 Air Nautique TE. How do I get it out?

I tried searching to keep from posting an old topic... no luck.

I just purchased an 07 226 Air Nautique Team Edition, and was very anxious to take my boys surfing. I realized quickly that the port side factory ballast tank has a 6" hairline crack that can push out water faster than I can pump it in. After two days of research, it seems that plastic welding is the only real fix. I have also realized that there is no way to have it welded without pulling it out of the boat.

    1. How difficult is it to remove the factory port side ballast? Will the factory ballast slip out in raised step/battery cover? Now as I continue to read through the forums, I realize that scrapping the tank in favor of a fat sack may be the preferred solution. But how do I get the factory tank out??

    2. From what I'm reading... it sounds like we need to forget the port side and learn to surf goofy?!? sounds like there isn't a good way to get a good wave on the port side.

I live and work on Norris Lake in Tennessee... one of the finest lakes anywhere. I have dreamed of owning a decent surf boat for years... I'm really close, but 3 days into my ownership of this beautiful boat, I find myself discouraged. Thank you for your help.

Honestly just remove the engine divider and subfloor and you will see where it is attached to brackets and unbolt it. Remove the two hoses and then fittings. Remove the sending unit and disconnect plug. The tank will come up if you lift it out and rotate 180 degrees. Just replace with a ballast bag. Do the same on other side.

It sure doesn't look like it will fit... I took the divider out in order to find the crack. I will give it a try. Any advice on what to replace it with?
      (thanks for the reply)

Check with Wakemaker.com I would put an 1100 if it fits 800 at minimum. You will lose the function of gauge but the pumps run a timer anyway. So two cycles will fill an 800. You will also gain storage by using sac instead of adding piggyback sac on tank.

As far as the surfing goes, no worries have a look at this post start at the beginning and read through. ..you will be able to surf port side after that. ..

My self personally I ski. ..that is my passion, now we have the option of surfing and the kids make it look so easy. ..not knowing to much about it, the wave is obviously better starboard but it just didn't feel right for me. .made myself a stuck gate like everybody is talking about here and WOW!!!what a difference, now I am starting to be able to let go the rope and ride for a little bit.

Suck gate makes surfing port side a reality
