1999 Hour meter / tach gauge repair?

As most of the 1999 nautiques my hour meter has a black display. Is there anyone on here who has succcesfully reapaired or replaced the display in the gauge.
It would be interesting to know how many hours my boat has, none of the previous owners had a clue.

There is a thread on here that details to an extent the disassembly of those gauges and how to repair them. If I recall I don't think it was permanent but it did seem to work for a period of time before the guages went dim again. Hopefully someone has the link they can post here.

Sorry but that's not the same gauge. 1999 has analog tach with a small LCD Hour meter.
