Oops, did I hurt my engine?

Similar problem to the post about smoke from a 330 excalibur. I have an 03' SAN with the 330. I changed the impeller myself and put the boat in the water. I idled around for a few minutes waiting for friends to park my trailer and walk down to the dock. After loading and idling out of the no wake zone I proceeded to accelerate and the engine bogged down at 2000 rpm. I then noticed the temp was up to 180. At this point I realized that the most likely problem was that there was an air bubble in the water lines from changing the impeller. As soon as I moved around the engine temp immediatly dropped and the engine accelerated normally. Next time I will know to get a little speed as soon as I put the boat in the water to prime the system. I shoulda known better. Now, on to the question. When we started wakeboarding I noticed more smoke than normal on acceleration. It could be all in my head but I swear there's more than normal. Could I have hurt something by overheating the engine? I am going to check the oil for water. What is a "normal" amount of smoke? Thanks!

No smoke is "normal". Having said that some may occur if the engine is really cold and the fuel doesn't burn completely. However steam is normal from the exhaust of the Nautique. If you were really hot there was probably more steam If it sdidn't get above 200 there should be no lasting damage. If it get really hot the engine will go into lomp mode. If you weren't therr don't worry.

Not likely you hurt anything. The engine bogged down to 2000 rpms because the computer system put the engine into limp home mode when it detected you were getting hot. BKH

I agree with BKH, but guys, wouldn't you still inspect the impeller just to make sure all the blades were intact to be on the safe side?
