Dying keypad on 2000 SAN... or is it?

Before I shell out the $400 for a new keypad (this one: http://www.nautiqueparts.com/keypadc...ortside-1.aspx) I wanted to make sure that it's actually my problem...

I've read that it's a fairly common part to have issues with? I've had issues with the rear deck open/close buttons not working intermittently, and just lately, sometimes I don't get the comforting light that comes on when you touch a button... took several attempts to put the code in and get the boat started the other day. then idling out of the campground, the light went out and the boat died...like someone cut the electric, not like the engine died. This happened I think three times. After warming up and running for a minute, it didn't happen again. In trying to sort it out, I played with the battery switch a few times, and then it worked... I don't see what could go wrong with the battery switch, but it seemed to help in that moment.

Is there anything else to consider, or do I just need to replace this thing?

Also, will replacing this change my magic code to start the boat, or how does that work? Can you program your own code?

    Thanks.....
Working...
