So I have about 30 hours on my new 2016 G21 with the ZR7 motor. It's a sweet boat for sure! But I can smell the exhaust when I ride behind her and sometimes in the passenger area if we're heading downwind. She just had the 25 hour service and besides the engine being out of alignment by .012 (which was corrected) there were no other issues. I have asked the dealer about it and they are looking into it. I searched on here before posting and no results showed up so I thought I would ask. Anybody else experience this issue on a newer G series? Thanks!

Not sure which engine you've got (there is no ZR7), but I am assuming you mean XR7 550.
That engine uses standard exhaust manifolds (unlike the XS7, which uses SS headers). With the Surf Pipe, you shouldn't smell anything unless there is a leak in the system somewhere. Have the dealer check all of the exhaust hose connections and you could also search for a crack in the manifolds or a leak at the seal. I am not aware of any known common issues causing exhaust leaks on that engine.I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. I just spoke with my dealer and he informed me that the XR7 doesn't have a catalytic converter which is why I am noticing exhaust smell while behind the boat and in the cockpit when running downwind. Now I am wondering if extending the Surf Pipe would clear this issue up. Any thoughts?

I disagree. I have the same engine in the same boat. With the surf pipe you shouldn't smell any exhaust when riding behind the boat and certainly shouldn't smell it in the cockpit. Sounds like your dealer is trying to avoid doing a thorough inspection.

I had my local mechanic inspect the spark plugs today. 40 hours running time and the plugs have a lot of carbon buildup. I should also mention that I live at 6220 elevation. I sent pix of the fouled plugs to dealer and am awaiting reply.

The ECM was overcompensating for altitude. The 50 hour service revealed that the oil reeked of gasoline. PCM was made aware of the issue and they were able to duplicate the issue. PCM issued a software upgrade and the dealership replaced the O2 sensors. I had the dealer winterize the boat and now she is in storage so I wasn't able to verify repairs. So just a follow up FWIW.
