    oil pan question

    whats up guys...been a while since i've posted anything but i have a few questions. i have a 1990 sport nautique and my oil pan is rusting from the outside in. ski dim wants almost 300 bucks for a new one which i think is ridiculous. anyways i have a brand new dual sump oil pan with a new pickup tube sitting in my garage ...from a motor i put in my mustang.
    can anyone see why i could not use this pan? the only problem i could see is if my rusted pan has a windage tray for oil slosh. does anyone know if it does?

    If no one knows you could always take the current one out and compare them. If you have to replace it anyway, you mind as well try. Just don't put the one off the mustand in if there are considerable different characteristics.

      Seems like the main concern would be clearance for the boat oil pan. My guess is that the boat oil pan is more shallow, but that's just a guess.

        Is the pan beyond repair? Can you remove the pan, sandblast the rust, repaint and reinstall? What about trying to repair it. Could you take it somewhere where they could mig or tig weld it? 300 bucks is alot for an oil pan.
        If you can't do it in, on, or behind a Nautique..... It just ain't worth doing!

          My guess is that the oil pan is just a stock Ford part. Look in salvage yards for a comparable replacement to yours.

            ICBW, but I could swear I heard at one point that the motor needs to be pulled to get the oil pan off. If this is in fact true, perhaps you could clean up the pan as best you can in place, then hit it with some paint. This will at least slow the process.

            Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong!

              $100 for a new 351 PCM oil pan. Got it in 2 days. Use these guys a lot.

                also, for a quick fix; clean it up good, and use "marine tek" 2 part epoxy. got me thru last season.
