2016 G21 overheated

My 2016 G21 overheated this weekend. As soon as it overheated, I checked the filter. It was clean. The boat went into a safety mode and I nursed it back home by letting it cool whenever the temperature rose. I never let it get over 225 F and that was for only one brief second. Other than that, I kept it bw 180 and 212 F. When I'd first restart it (after shutting it down to cool) it would start cooling down to 180. Then it would start rising again. Happened every time adn at speeds between idel and 15mph.. Does that sound like an impeller issue?

Anyway, the dealer will tow it back to the marina and check it out. Does anyone have any idea what it could be?

That's bad. Your idle temps should be 165-175 depending on the water temp and how hard you are running it.

clean your water strainer.

check your screen filters-- tranny and thermostat

relace your impellor

you either have a bad impellor or a blockage... Get it fixed asap!

wasn't there a recall on 16' thermostats? I have a 16' 230 that had the recall on the thermostat. I did have a couple overheating issues but both times were a clogged strainer.

Yep, it is likely the thermostat. Mine had to be replaced as well. Same exact issue. Running fine, then overheating without any other cause. Certain 2016 engines have a service bulletin on the thermostat and the pulleys.

Check impeller. Happened to me the same this weekend. The impeller (almost new) was burned. I am checking for leaks in the intake circuit that drove the impeller to run dry.

Marina wanted to replace the impeller at my house on the lift before towing it. Didnt help. They are overnighting thermostats to have it fixed by tomorrow.
