    Fixed it

the lead out of the alternator was rusted to ****

i replaced the nut, scraped all the corrosion off the connection and wire brushed the stud coming out of the alternator

apparently I had touched the stud when I originally tested for voltage. Since I couldn't see where I was touching, I had no idea of the rust

testing again with a buddy gave results from 3v to 9v.

Fired her up again and im getting 13.9 at the dash

Reopening this...the question as to a marine alternator at the automotive pricing. Nautique parts wants WAY too much for a marinized alternator.

I'm thinking something like this would work but, like to get some confirmation. It is a marine alternator and 3 wire, two would be picked up with the existing wiring and one would be not connected (tach wire).

I'd say the safety aspect is not of concern here since it is a marinized alternator. The difference in price here is OEM part from Nautique Parts vs. "generic" part you've found.
