Proper oil for 2012 210

went to local auto shop to buy oil since its time to winterize. Pcm manual calls for 15w40 gf-4 sm. The problem is that all of the 15w40's are diesel. I don't recall having this problem over the last 3 years but I'm sure I could be wrong. Local marina recommended 25w40. I would prefer to stick with what the manual says. Any recommendations out there?

You're running into the same problem discussed here. The manual is wrong. That weight and rating do not exist.

Agree...Honestly, I doubt there is a 15w40 on the market that would NOT work. Just change every 50 hours or so and don't worry so much...

Shell Rotella or Delo 15W40. Either one is good, cheap oil and will do you right.

The filter is arguably more important anyways. Get yourself a Wix

Like the oil, if you plan to change the filter every 50 hours the brand does not matter, in my opinion. No one will ever own a boat long enough or be able to tell one way or another if it mattered what oil type or filter brand was used.

This is what I did. However, I did see on the invoice the dealer I bought our boat from had used the 25W-40. I'm sure either is going to be fine.

Cut apart a fram and a wix filter and there is a huge difference. Does it matter to me? Probably not because I won't own the boat longer than 5 years. However, it gives me peace of mind that I am using quality products that will hopefully help the next guy.

I use Mobil 1 15W50 in all my boats its the only weight recommended for both roller and flat lifter engines. Remember using synthetic oil doesn't mean you can go over on change intervals. I change every 50 hours and suck out the trans oil as well. As for filters Purolator gold ,Mobil 1 and K&M are some good ones

yeah, well it is pretty "extreme" to worry too much about brand of filter....WHEN you are changing the filter at 50 hours...

+1 to Delo 15w-40, this what i ran in my most recent change. oil pressure dropped about 3 psi from old oil at idle and OT. after this change (rest of the season and drop it before winter storage) i plan on trying amsoil brand new semi-syntethic blend in 15-40. it offers crazy water protection supposedly. still lubricates with 10% water dilution.
