Antifreeze Leaking from Shaft Seal

I'm in the process of winterizing my sv211 for the first time and while running antifreeze via the fake-a-lake, it eventually starting to come out of the shaft seal. I can see the antifreeze in the water filter, but it's yet to come out of the rear exhaust port? I got nervous when I saw it coming of the shaft so I aborted. Anyone experienced this before and/or know why?

Shaft seal will have a cooling tube going to it from your cooling system so if you are injecting antifreeze into the cooling system it will come out down the shaft because that also happens with water when you run it up on the trailer and you may have not noticed

IMScarlet, thanks for the reply. If it's running out of the shaft seal, does that mean it's cycled completely through the block? I pulled a couple of plugs afterwards and antifreeze came out. Just being extra cautious since this is the first time wtih this boat.

How much antifreeze have you used? It should come out of the exhaust once it is all the way through the system. It can take five gallons or more before that happens.

I used 4.0 - 4.5 gallons

Can't remember where PCM take the line from but some are off the trans cooler before or just after the raw water pump before it enters the block

Most important question, did you drain everything before sucking up the antifreeze? Be sure and drain the strainer of any antifreeze when you are done.

Quinner - Yes, I drained the water out prior to adding antifreeze.

Thanks for the tidbit regarding removing antifreeze from the strainer. Wouldn't have thought to do that.

Just mentioned this in another thread, if your boat has a keypad & gateway with pitots I would suggest you pull the lines off the pitots at the gateway to ensure they are drained and if its not too much trouble completely remove the gateway and store it inside in a warm dry place.
