    Walters V-Drive fluid change

I have a 2005 Excalibur 330 with the walters v-drive. Is there any way to simply suck the fluid out for a change or is the only option to remove the lower drain plug to drain? I was going to suck it out through the dip stick tube but there is a couple of 90 degree bends towards the bottom and seems no way to get the suck tube all of the way in there to the fluid.

sorry drain plug. I had a hose made to screw into drain plug hole. pita to install, but had to replace pan gasket anyway. now I use extractor just like I do for engine oil from end of hose. local hydraulic shop made the hose for me.

      Phil,
I have the same boat and I am in the same state. Check out post number 5 from this link:
      https://www.planetnautique.com/vb5/f...v-drive-fluids
It involves using a catch container for the oil to drain into from the v-drive drain plug, and then use your vacuum extractor to suck the oil up from the container (during the draining process to prevent a catch contain overflow. I have been using this method for the last three years and have not had drop of v-drive oil drip into my bilge.

Got it and used this process, worked great. Thanks

What's the proper method for checking the level of the new fluid? Do I push the dip stick all the way in, fully seated or only to where the plug on the stick rests on the drive? Same for the tranny fluid, do I push the dip tick fully seated or only to where the plug rests on the block?

          Phil,
          In the manual it states:
"Verify the oil level with the gauge fully inserted into the V-Drive housing."

The transmission is a bit more complicated, but here are the instructions (for the PCM Transmission) from the Engine Owners and Maintenance Manual. The instructions are a bit different if you have the Hurst transmission. Click image for larger version Name:	TransCheck.JPG Views:	1 Size:	58.8 KB ID:	504179
If you do not yet have the manuals, get them here: https://www.planetnautique.com/vb5/f...uals-brochures

This is old, but figured I would share my $20 oil extractor. Bought a suction gun and put a 13" copper extension (3/16" diameter) to access the v drive. I can get about 1 quart out and it goes really quick
