Hi All,
Just wanted to offer up top marks for Hydrophase http://www.hydrophase.com speed controller product. After some research, I bought the GPS unit from Ridesteady / Hydrophase. I bought the Ridesteady product, frankly, because it was a few hundred $ cheaper than that from Perfect Pass.
It features a large screen, ability to tune rider preferences and create individual rider profiles with a highly user-friendly dial wheel. The wheel is used for adjusting target speed,, as well as scrolling from rider to rider and other settings, which I found easier to use than traditional up and down arrows.
In dialing in the speed, which I used for wake surfing, wake boarding and just cruising, you can target a speed to the nearest .1 mph. The system was intuitive enough to figure out and use very quickly. I taught friends new to boat driving to use it effectively immediately.
Secondary features I appreciate are: 1. tach and speed display on the main screen and 2. the system voltage readout while the ignition is turned off (it has a 30 or 60 minute count-down timer) which keeps the unit's screen active. The voltage display could be helpful for those using their stereo systems with the engine not running so the battery doesn't get too depleted.
The installation was easy to follow and took about 3 hours. If I installed it a second time, it'd be even faster. The hardest part of the installation was passing the servo motor wire bundle down through the hull pass-through. I used a 10' fiberglass rod which electricians use for passing wires within walls of a building. Also, the hardware threads on to the GT40 throttle quick release, which makes attaching to the throttle connection very easy. And the servo motor is clamped to the large exhaust bellows, which makes things very easy, too.
In the end, my experience couldn't be better with Ridesteady. Justin, the owner and product engineer was very available for asking questions.
I highly recommend the product.
PS - no I don't work for Ridesteady, but I can copy images from their website
