    Bow eye/fiberglass problem

My bow "eye" has pulled out of the fiberglass, splintering the surrounding gelcoat and glass. Under which area of warranty does this fall under, and what should I expect to be done about it? Any help or insights are appreciated. By the way, this was the boats maiden voyage, 2006 Air 226, trailered about 20 miles round trip.
    thanks

Should be fixed by your dealer. The bow eye bolts were probably not tight.

Just return the boat to the dealer and tell them to fix it. It sounds like it was not installed corectly at the factory or it was damaged during transport to the dealer. Either way you have nothing to worry about, it is clearly a warranty issue unless they can prove negligence on your part.

Wow! On my boat, the bow eye is bolted through the steel strap that carries the force of the lifting ring. In order to pull the bow eye out of my boat, the entire nose of the boat would have come with it. Did the nuts/washers come out with the bow eye?

The flat piece of steel between the nuts and the boat is lifted from the surface by about and eighth of an inch, not completely out, not even close actually. But as it separated, it pulled or splintered the adjacent glass/gelcoat, not alot, but clearly broken or cracked and peeling, flaking. Dealer said to bring it in. Hopefully, the nut is just loose. The whole thing is very subtle unless you are looking for it. Dealer wants to check structural integrity first, and then repair glass/coat. I need to trailer it though, almost 60 miles, to the dealer. Don't want to see that come loose at 50mph!

I'd pull my front bow cushion out and reach up there to tighten it down. I think its a 9/16th wrench. Tighten them down in unison. In other words, don't tighten the top one all the way and then the bottom. Do a few turns with the top one then the same with the bottom--and so on. You should be fine to tow it with those tightened down. Otherwise, tell your dealer to come get it if you're not sure its safe.

Oh, I thought it came completely off the boat. I think you will be fine towing it to the dealer.

Ok, I looked inside under the front cooler and the fore (front) bolt is very loose. So much so that the washer is just floating there, and is easily spun with my finger. The aft bolt is tight, which would explain why just the top half of bow hook (winch hook) bent and pulled away, not the lower portion. Still going to take at least a week or two to fix the glass and gelcoat.
