    2016 H5DI Engine Oil Capacity

Getting ready to perform the first oil change on a 2016 H5DI engine and I am searching for what the oil capacity is, with filter. According to the manual, the engine fluid capacity for all models is "Start with 6 Quarts (5.7L)". This reads "Start", what should be the end? Assuming all oil has been removed from the engine, does anyone know what the actual capacity on the engine is, including a new oil filter?

In some posts there is reference of members having removed 6.5 to up to 7.0 quarts of oil. I want to avoid the "put as much oil as you removed" method and I am aware that one should ultimately check the oil level with the dipstick.

Sorry if this topic has already been covered. I did some searches and could not find one specific to oil capacity. If this helps other readers, is the capacity on the H6 engine the same as on the H5?

I don't have any reccomendations other than I would "start" with the 6 quarts and check the level after running the engine.

Curious to hear how it goes using the quick drain oil hose under the engine. I have inspected it but not performed an oil change. It seemed it would be difficult to get a container under the engine and have the oil flow freely out of the hose. It would seem the hose would have to go up to get into the container and would prohibit flow. Let me know how you do with that.

I have an oil pump so the oil comes out of the dipstick. I find this to be very easy, no mess.

If your boat is under warranty, does Nautique allow you to preform maintenance and still honor the warranty or do they require the Nautique dealer to preform the maintenance?

Which one do you have? I should get one.

The quick drain look useless IMHO. On my old boat the hose could go through the rear drain plug. There is no rear drain plug on the G. Maybe someone else has had a difference experience.

Don't go cheap on pumps, have a 15+yr old Suk-up that is still....suckin, if I was in the market today I would likely get a MityVac. You need it for the trans anyway and you can use it for everything else in your stable, mowers, atv's, cars/trucks, etc.
Key to the extractor pumps is always pump with hot or very warm oil, cold oil will not pump well. I typically start with the dipstick and then transfer to the drain hose to get every last drop out.

It's 7 quarts on the dot if you are changing the filter as well. My dealer confirmed that they are getting 7 quarts as well.

To the person that asked if you can perform an oil change if the boat is under warranty, the answer is yes. I wouldn't buy a boat that wouldn't let me perform my own service. To force customers to pay 300 bucks for an oil change would be ludicrous.

Thank you all for your responses.

Thanks DocPhil, just what I needed to know. Good thing I bought an extra quart, just in case.

Hold up. I misread your post. I thought you had the H6. My post is applicable to the H6. I'm sorry.

Kmayotte, the oil pump that I have is a Big Boy Topsider MVP, it holds 2 gallons.

If you buy a pump get one with high capacity as otherwise you will have to empty it during the oil change. For the H5 engine I can pump out all the oil in one shot.

I like the pump and has worked well. One feature that I like is that I can also use it as a container for the used oil, just replace the pump and hose adapter with the included lids and you can easily take the container to a recycling facility or auto parts store to discard the oil.

                      Finished the oil change.

As the manual suggests, I started with 6 quarts. Ran the engine for a few minutes, turned it off and waited for a few minutes for the oil to settle, then checked the dipstick. I found that it was marking at the low end. Added another quart for a total of 7 quarts (with new oil filter empty). Repeated process (run engine, wait a few minutes, and checked the dipstick again). This time it marked at the top/full level exactly.

I also measured the oil I took out. In total 7 quarts and 12 ounces (note that this was my first oil change on this engine, at 25 hours). This included getting as much oil out of the filter as possible although there is always a bit left that is difficult to completely get out.

Moving forward I will use 7 quarts, including oil filter, when doing the oil change.

                      Hope this helps.

They do just make sure you use pcm parts. If you take it in for warranty work and there are none pcm parts it could void the warranty. I asked my dealer about doing my own oil changes when I bought my new boat.

PCM parts for what? The filter that came from the factory is Sierra. I used a Wix.
